The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects over an alleged robbery in which hoodlums stole mobile phones and other valuables worth millions of naira from residents of a compound housing Cozy Resort Hotel in Birshi Gandu, Bauchi State.
PUNCH Metro learnt from a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, on Sunday that the suspects, identified as Abdulshakur Adamu, 20, aka Dan Oga, of Jahun, and Rabiu Usman, 21, of Sabon Layi, Bauchi, were arrested in a coordinated operation involving police operatives and community members.
The police said three hoodlums armed with knives and machetes allegedly broke into the compound while the victims were asleep and dispossessed them of their belongings.
According to the command, four complainants, comprising two men and two women, reported the incident at the E Division on October 17, 2026.
The victims, all residents of Birshi Gandu, reportedly lost several electronic devices and other valuables, including Samsung Galaxy S22 and S23 phones, a Redmi Note 14, iPhones, iPads, a Lenovo laptop, a Samsung tablet, power banks, AirPods, office identity cards and a driver’s licence.
Habib said the arrests followed a swift response by operatives of the E Division, Yelwa, and community members, who tracked one of the stolen phones and apprehended the suspects.
“Sequel to the report, and in a swift and coordinated response bolstered by operatives of E-Division Yelwa and the courageous community members who tracked one of the stolen phones, [the suspects were apprehended],” the statement read.
Habib said the suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation and identified another accomplice, Kabiru, aka KB, of Birshi Gandu, who is currently at large.
“Furthermore, upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and revealed that they conspired with one Kabiru, a.k.a. KB of Birshin Gandu, who is now at large, to carry out the operation,” Habib stated.
The police said a search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of three smartphones, two power banks, a headphone and a USB cable from the suspects.
The victims identified the recovered items, while a sharp knife was also recovered as an exhibit.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
The command said the investigation would focus on apprehending the fleeing suspect, recovering the remaining stolen items and ensuring the diligent prosecution of those found culpable.
Commending the victims and community members for their cooperation, Aliyu said the incident underscored the importance of community policing.
The command urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies, assuring them of its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
