Two people have been killed and two others injured in a road crash involving a commercial bus and a pickup van along the Adekunle corridor, inward Iyana Oworo, Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq.

Taofiq said LASTMA operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene to rescue the injured victims, evacuate the bodies of the deceased and secure the accident scene.

He said, “The tragic collision, which claimed two lives and left two other occupants with severe injuries, necessitated an immediate emergency response by LASTMA operatives, who promptly mobilised to the scene to coordinate rescue operations, secure the accident site and facilitate the safe evacuation of the casualties.”

According to him, the bodies of the two deceased victims were handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, popularly known as SHEMU, while the injured victims were taken to the General Hospital, Odan, for urgent medical attention.

He added that the vehicles involved in the crash and the driver of the Suzuki bus were handed over to police officers from the Yaba Police Division.

“LASTMA operatives formally handed over the accidented vehicles and the driver of the Suzuki bus to security personnel from the Yaba Police Division. The police officers provided the requisite security reinforcement and maintained order at the scene until the rescue and recovery operations were successfully concluded,” the statement added.

The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, sympathised with the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.

He urged motorists to exercise caution, obey traffic regulations and adhere to prescribed speed limits to prevent avoidable road crashes.

Bakare-Oki stressed that responsible driving, sustained concentration and vigilance were essential to reducing road traffic accidents and their devastating consequences.
