Celebrity fashion designer Veekee James has advised breastfeeding mothers to prioritise feeding their babies over rushing to lose their postpartum weight, joking that exclusive breastfeeding has not helped her achieve the weight loss she expected.

In a video shared on her Instagram page, the new mother spoke humorously about her experience with breastfeeding, explaining that the process often leaves mothers hungry at odd hours and makes losing weight more challenging than expected.

“Breastfeeding mom no dey do weight loss,” she said, repeatedly warning mothers not to expect immediate results from exclusive breastfeeding.

According to her, women who are pregnant should not assume that they will automatically shed their pregnancy weight after childbirth simply by breastfeeding.

“If you dey pregnant now and somebody don tell you say, ‘No worry, you go still get your baby and then you go lose all the weight,’ you fit still wait another nine to 12 months before you start to dream about losing the weight.”

Sharing her personal experience, Veekee disclosed that she had been unable to resume her normal activities because of her weight loss expectations, joking that she had spent the past week staying at home to breastfeed her baby.

“See me now, I dey house. I no fit go work, I no fit go out because I don deform.”

The designer also explained that breastfeeding mothers often have to eat whenever hunger strikes, regardless of the time, because their bodies need nourishment to produce milk.

“If hunger catch you for 12 o’clock, you go chop. If hunger catch you for 1 a.m., you go chop. If hunger catch you for 2 a.m., you go chop,” she said.

The wife of Femi Atere also joked that mothers who have babies with big appetites may find it even more difficult to focus on weight loss, as their priority becomes ensuring that their babies are well-fed.

“Breastfeeding mom no dey check time wey dem dey chop. Na your body know when e wan produce milk, na your body know why you no dey lose everything,” she maintained.

Despite her complaints about the demands of breastfeeding, the fashion designer reassured mothers that they could still work towards losing their pregnancy weight after they were done breastfeeding.

“You fit still lose all the weight. Make you breastfeed finish, because breastfeeding mom no dey do weight loss,” she said.

She further joked that babies were unconcerned about their mothers’ waistlines, arms or weight, as their only priority was getting enough milk.

“Breastfeeding mamas, there’s no weight loss over here. Because the babies are gonna eat, and they don’t care about your waist, they don’t care about your arms, they don’t care about your weight. They just want you to produce milk.”

The Nigerian Voice recalls that Veekee James and her husband Femi Atere in a joint Instagram post in May, announced the birth of their first child, a baby girl.

According to them, their child named Eliana Adeife Atere was born on May 2nd, 2026.
